Watch this video for answers to some of the most common questions I receive about restoration and painting.
Not everyone has the time or the patience to restore their vintage sewing machine. I have had the honor and pleasure of restoring machines for many of my customers and I don't take lightly that they have trusted me with something that is very special to them. So, if you are thinking of having me restore your machine, this is what to expect:
The restoration process starts with you contacting me. Usually I will ask for some information about your machine, i.e. model, color and condition. If possible I will have you send a few photos. After that I will give you a ballpark estimate on the restoration costs. I figure labor, parts and shipping costs.
If you decided to send me your machine for restoration I will give you instructions on how to box the machine, what to send with it and what not to send, etc. You are responsible for all shipping costs and usually I find that UPS is the most reliable and affordable way to ship.
Once you send the machine I will let you know when it arrives and keep you updated throughout the process. If I find anything unusual while restoring the machine I will contact you and let you know. You may get a picture or two from me through the process, just so you can see what is happening.
Once the machine is finished and it has sewed for me satisfactorily I will let you know it is ready. Then I will package the machine and send you an invoice. You should expect to see the following broken down on the invoice: labor, parts and total shipping costs.
As soon as the invoice has been paid I will ship the machine back to you and I will provide you with the tracking number.
In most cases the turn around time is 2-4 weeks, not including shipping time.
If you would like your machine to be painted, I can have that done! Additional cost and time will be necessary for this service.
